A farm in Indiana recently faced significant public criticism following its decision to feature a corn maze designed in homage to the late Charlie Kirk, leading the establishment to release a public statement explaining its choice.
Goebel Farms, located in Evansville, reportedly explained that their motivation for honoring the deceased founder of Turning Point USA stemmed from his dedication to the principle of free speech.
Kirk tragically lost his life on September 10, 2025, when he was shot during a Turning Point USA event held at Utah Valley University.
Community Reaction and Farm's Defense
Following the announcement of this year's maze theme, the farm's business page on Google reportedly saw a surge of negative reviews, as reported by WEHT. It appears that the farm has since taken down its Google listing, having previously designated the business as "permanently closed," according to discussions on an Evansville Reddit forum that highlighted the public disapproval.
In a statement reported by 14News, Goebel Farms acknowledged that not everyone agreed with Kirk's political views or methods, asserting that its intention was to promote civil discourse rather than deepen societal divisions.
Our intention was not to imply that everyone should adopt Charlie’s beliefs or endorse every statement he made. We acknowledge that he was a divisive public figure and that many held strong objections to his perspectives and approaches. Charlie was killed while publicly articulating and discussing his convictions. In a nation founded on the principles of free expression, no individual should forfeit their life for engaging in political discourse. People are free to question ideas, critique them, and reject them — but violence must never be the reaction to speech.
That principle is fundamental to the message of our maze. Even when our disagreements are profound, we must continue to engage in dialogue and listen to each other. When conversation ceases, division intensifies, and it becomes simpler to perceive others as adversaries rather than fellow citizens.
The farm further clarified its position, emphasizing its identity as a family-run enterprise and "not a political organization." It expressed a straightforward hope: "that Americans can speak openly, disagree honestly and challenge one another’s ideas without hatred or violence—and that our community can continue treating its members with dignity and respect."
Legal Case Surrounding Kirk's Death
Tyler Robinson, aged 23, stands accused of the assassination of Kirk, who was 31 years old and a father of two, an event that occurred approximately one year prior.
Robinson is set to face trial following a recent ruling by a Utah judge. The judge determined on Tuesday that prosecutors had presented sufficient evidence to proceed with all seven charges brought against him. These charges include aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm resulting in serious bodily injury, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child.
