Filmmaker Lexi Alexander Draws Scrutiny for Social Media Post on Executive's Death

German-Palestinian-American filmmaker Lexi Alexander shared a post on X that appeared to celebrate the death of Bank of America executive Erin Piacenti on Tuesday, making an apparent reference to Luigi Mangione, who is accused of a prominent shooting incident in 2024.

Erin Piacenti was identified as the victim of a deadly stabbing that occurred in New York City’s Times Square on Monday. During the incident, a woman wielding a knife also injured another individual before being shot and killed by police.

Piacenti had recently returned to her role at Bank of America, having spent the preceding five months caring for her newborn daughter.

Alexander's Controversial Post

In response to the news of Piacenti's death, Alexander, known for directing the 2005 drama "Green Street Hooligans" and the 2008 film "Punisher: War Zone," reposted a news headline about the incident. Her post included an image depicting Batman looking up at a bat signal, which had been altered to display Mangione's face.

The social media platform has since labeled Alexander's post as containing "sensitive content," though it remains publicly accessible on her account.

Alexander also addressed critics of her post, suggesting they were part of a "hasbara," a term often used to describe Israeli public relations operations.

"Hasbara bots out in full swing just like the first time we asked people to boycott BofA," Alexander wrote, recalling an article that cited Bank of America's previous support for Israel.

In a subsequent X post, Alexander retweeted another user who stated she "didn't care" about Piacenti's death and claimed to have received death threats from "Zionists" as a result.

Alexander's reaction to Piacenti's death drew parallels to the unexpected public support that Mangione reportedly received after he allegedly killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in 2024.

Journalist and commentator Douglas Murray, during a television appearance in 2025, discussed what he perceived as a growing inclination among some Americans, particularly those on the political left, to rationalize acts of violence. He cited instances such as the deaths of Thompson and Charlie Kirk.
